Magers’ Crossing
Earlier today, while shooting some pictures, a carload of Frio Bounders stopped by and asked.. “Where’s Magers Crossing?” After giving directions and getting back in the funrivers.com Jeep to head ironically to Magers Crossing for flyer distributions.. I got to thinking.. I really need to do a little write up about this “HotSpot” for our readers before they head down to Frio Canyon.
Many folks come to The Frio, yet don’t know where to go…. well, Magers’ Crossing on CR 350 is definitely one of the popular spots to check out- and best of all It’s FREE! Actually all the crossings are Free but most charge for more convenient parking.
As seen in the above photo, the cool waters of The Frio, Pebbly Rock Beaches, Cypress Tree Shade, and Naturally Landscaped beauty make
Magers one of the best public areas to lounge. Frio Bounders bring their umbrellas/canopies, ice chests, tubes, lawn chairs and most importantly- Good Company- and set up camp for the day.
Magers’ Crossing also has it’s own little jacuzzi-like area which you might have to fight for if you don’t claim it first! But don’t worry… fortunately there’s plenty of good spots for lounging at Magers.
If you do come to The Frio Canyon and decide to stop by Magers’, it’s located on CR 350 and is the only River Crossing on the less than 5 mile stretch. There are two main entrances into CR 350; one from HWY 83 across from the New Valley Vista Subdivision- 4 miles south of Garner State Park/5 miles North of Concan. The other is off RR 1050 from the HWY 83 turn and a few moments after the 1050 Bridge (on right). The County Road is easy to miss, so you might want to look it up before heading down or feel free to shoot us an email anytime if you have any questions.
Here’s a little Magers Wiki… The reason it’s Called Magers’ Crossing is because at one time, the Magers Family owned most of the land along CR 350- thus technically their Crossing. Today, they still own quite a bit of the area.

I have an opportunity to camp at Magers but have had no luck finding any photos of the camp houses they have available. I am afraid to pay 100.00 a day if my family will not be happy with the facility. Do you have any idea how I can get my hands on some of those

Shawn, we don’t personally have any photos of the accommodation. We currently only have inside pictures of places we represent either through websites, reservations, etc. However, I know it’s a very popular place to stay and can be hard to find availability.. plus we have never heard any negative feedback about it.

How is tubing along the Frio right now? We heard that the water levels are really low and tubing is almost nonexistent. It is June 29, 2009.
Thanks!

Cheryl… not going to lie.. it’s low and we need rain.. if you look at the current levels.. http://www.funrivers.com/frioflow.html you’ll see that we need everyone to bring a gallon to water to the Frio on their next stay.. jk.. but hmmm might be an idea.. Anyways.. ppl are gathering at places like Magers and enjoying themselves despite tubing levels.. Hope that helps and that this changes.

Is the camping site at Mager’s full at time fo season ? I’ll like to take my kids in about two weeks but I’m not sure if we should make reservations, or if we can just get there and get a camping site ?

We don’t do reservations for Magers so not sure if they are full until the end of the season or not. But it is a very popular camp and location. It’s best to call them directly @ 830-232-5442

Yes, there’s Camp Riverview across the crossing South on 350. It is the nearest camping area offered.

I will be coming out in late september. We already have non-water related plans, however will there be anything water related to do becuse of the water levels and/or temp?

Stephanie, apology for the the delayed response.. Well, since you commented we had a couple days of great showers that significantly rose the Frio. Of course, it’s dropped since then-however it’s up higher than it was when you commented. I am not sure where you are staying but there’s quite a few swimming holes that are always pretty good regardless of the water level, including Magers’.
