Same Frio, Different Year.. or is it?
When entering 2010, we wanted to do a new look with more features for our guests.. hence funrivers 3.0 that you see now with the new design.. We’ve now done 3 major makeovers over our 2 and half year span and always looking to improve in anyway we can to make your experience on the Frio River the most informational it can be for your stay. Please let us be your vacation reference since we are always around frequently checking things out on the Frio. Feel free to call or email us with any questions on local events or check out directly on our Events Page.. .. We will be making frequent changes and adding more information as time progresses so please check back, share with your friends and start planning your next Frio River Vacation for Spring Break, Easter, Fathers & Mothers Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Summer, Labor Day or any other occasion you wish to experience the Hill Country.
If you are new to our neck of the woods, the Frio is a Crystal Clear River encompassed with white rock beaches of every shape, size, view and color while being molded by limestone bluffs, rolling hills and lines of cypress trees on either side giving panoramic views from all over the canyon..
If you like to fish or snorkel, you will be amazed by how clearly you can see catfish, bass, sun perch, and other variations of fish from the Frio banks. If you are animal friendly, you’ll enjoy Axis Deer among a wide spectrum of exotic animals within some facilities. The Frio is Fed by natural cold springs just miles north of Leakey, Texas- the Frio is consistently cold throughout the year; a perfect remedy for the Spring and hot Summer suns but still offers great shades of red during the Fall Months.. Most and if not every accommodation is in in close proximity from swimming holes, Kayaking & Tubing Routes throughout the Frio Canyon Stretch or are directly located on a raised bluff or a stone’s throw/walking distance from the Frio. And if you are not directly on the Frio, it’s safe to say that there’s a accessible river spot 5 minutes from a majority of the Lodges, Cabins, RV Parks, Camping Sites or other Vacation Rentals.
The Frio Canyon is made up of the Tri Cities of Concan, Rio Frio and Leakey, Texas, and is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills admired by bikers and cyclists on FM 335, 336, & 337 (aka Three Sisters Bike Route) 1050, 1120, 83, directly into the Frio Canyon or out towards Utopia, Bandera, Vanderpool, Camp Wood, Uvalde, Medina and other highly recommended scenic Hill Country Towns. With less than 500 population in the Frio River Canyon, it’s stimulating to see the area filled with thousands on many given days in the Summer.
The great thing about the Frio is it offers a champagne lifestyle on a light beer budget. We receive numerous calls from people looking to change Vacation Rentals or looking for a New Braunfels type experience but Frio River Style. Did you know that “Currently” you can get a place on the Frio for as low as $12 a person? During the Peak Season, it’s $17.. While other desirable places are anywhere from $20-$50 per night (per person) Whatever the case, you are getting a nice place on/off the river with beautiful
surroundings, close proximity to many sight seeing spots, and all for a price less than staying at Motel on the side of the Highway with no kitchen, no back/front porch with views into the Frio or just a few moments drive to dip your feet. Nor do many $50 Motel Rooms offer Hills in the backdrop, Birds Chirping all around, Deer Crossing the front lawn, fishing is a stone’s throw away, or the array of other amenities included in many of the Frio Canyon Accommodations
_____________
On a Couple Other Notes
Lately, we have been receiving much needed spells of precipitation on an consistent basis that has already helped the Frio rise higher than any day of Summer 2009 (as many probably remember) Looking at the current signs and guesswork from the official weatherman… We are anticipating a good summer offering enjoyable Water Levels for tubing/kayaking or swimming and lounging.
We can’t wait for Spring to come along with it’s green magic wand and fluff up the trees, bloom up the plants & flowers while livening up the canyon just in time for everyone to experience the Frio River at it’s best. The birds are already back in town, so that’s a good sign things are coming soon so we’ll sit back and be prepared for it’s arrival.
Until Next Time….

The levels are very very good compared to last summer as mentioned in the post. I think it got as low as 5 cfps (ouch!) and it’s currently @ 62! Last summer as you may know was bad for a lot of rivers, lakes, etc in many parts of Texas.. We’ve been getting showers here and there that have been keeping it up and hopefully Mother Nature will stay consistent for everyone’s sake. You can also always check out the USGS Frio River Water Levels Here: http://www.funrivers.com/frioflow.html I will say if you do decide to come up, I’d start searching for a place asap, accommodations are filling up very quickly this year due to the water being up!

How is the river level now? We were up there July 2009 and quite disappointed. I hadn’t been on the Frio in over 10 years and would love to go back if it is not so dry.
